The 2025 DoD Basic Research Conference aims to showcase groundbreaking research, facilitate collaboration, and inform researchers about opportunities in basic research. The conference is a multi-day event featuring breakout sessions on over 15 topics. The conference is an extension of the Laboratory University Collaboration Initiative (LUCI), established in 2016 to foster collaboration between DoD laboratory researchers and academic researchers from the Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship and Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative programs. The LUCI program has successfully improved exchange between basic researchers across DoD laboratories. Presenters and attendees will primarily be from the Services.
The Basic Research Office is the Department-wide strategic thread in ensuring future capability and makes investments in areas where the Services may not be able to. We work with academia, industry, and government partners to foster collaborations, shape priorities, and forge pathways in scientific investment areas that aim to establish new and strengthened alliances with international allies, insertion of new innovations into programs of record, and long-term scientific and technological superiority.
The conference will feature:
- Plenary Speakers
- Oral presentations, panel discussions, and poster presentations.
- Networking mixers and opportunities to connect with colleagues and leaders.
- A focus on specific technical areas relevant to the DoD research enterprise and critical defense community issues
